E-Cigarette & E-Liquid FAQs
Are you looking to QUIT your old smoking habits and change over to the new healthier, innovative and successful alternative that you have been hearing about but need to know more facts before you take the plunge? We at TC Vapours totally understand this as we were all once new to ‘Vaping’ as well. With so much new terminology it can be a little bit confusing at first. Have a look through our guide below for an explanation of the more frequently used terms and hopefully everything about the vaping world will be a lot clearer to you.
What is an E-Cigarette?
An E-Cigarette (E-Cig, Electronic Cigarette, Vapouriser Cigarette) is a lithium battery operated device that is used to emit quantities of vapourised E-Liquid which simulates the effect of smoking without burning any tobacco. Because you don’t burn any tobacco there is no smoke or carbon monoxide. The E-Cigarette is made up of a battery, an atomiser and a cartridge containing e-liquid.
What is E-Liquid?
E-Liquid or E-Juice is made up of a mixture of propylene glycol and/or vegetable glycerin (both common food additives), water, flavourings and nicotine of varying strength can be added too.
What is Propylene Glycol?
Propylene Glycol (PG) has been used since the mid 20th century in a wide variety of applications and has been analysed by scientists and considered safe for inhalation. Some of the common uses for it are for inhalers, in medicines and in the smoke machines that are used by the entertainment industries. It is odourless, has no colour and can be mixed in water. When used in E-Liquid it produces a ‘hit’ at the back of the throat similar to the sensation you get when smoking a cigarette. This makes it a popular choice for people who are using E-Cigarettes as a means of reducing their smoking habit.
What is Vegetable Glycerin?
Vegetable Glycerin is a clear, odourless organic compound produced from plant oils such as coconut, palm, or soy. It is often used in food products as it has a sweet taste and it absorbs moisture from the air helping to keep food moist.
Will E-Cigarettes help me stop smoking?
It is now well documented that using e-cigarettes is the most successful method to stop smoking. According to a review conducted by Public Health England there is now emerging evidence that “some of the highest successful quit rates are now seen among smokers who use an e-cigarette and also receive additional support from their local stop smoking services”.
Are E-Cigarettes harmful to my health?
E-cigarettes do not contain the harmful chemicals contained in regular cigarettes that often increase the chance of strokes, lung cancer and heart disease.
A review by Public Health England found that the rise of e-cigarette use in the country has been matched with a decrease in the amount of people who are smoking.
People wanting to stop smoking are now using e-cigarettes as their preferred method of quitting and there is good quality evidence that it is an effective way.
Used correctly there is no danger of nicotine poisoning and e-cigarettes release negligible amounts of nicotine into the atmosphere with no danger to bystanders (e.g. passive smoking) having been identified.
